Trad Climbing Learn to Lead
Trad Climbing Course – Peak District
Learn the skills to climb single-pitch trad routes with confidence. Over two- three action-packed days, you’ll cover gear placement, anchor building, safe belaying, and risk management — all with expert, personalised coaching. You’ll put your new skills into practice on the Peak District’s classic crags, building the confidence to tackle trad routes safely and independently.
Experience Needed
Ideally, you should already be leading indoors and have some outdoor seconding experience, but we welcome climbers from all backgrounds. As a guide, you should be able to:
-
Fit climbing equipment correctly
-
Tie into a harness
-
Top rope & lead belay
-
Feel confident climbing outdoors on rock
Not quite there yet? Our Becoming Independent Course is the perfect starting point.
Kit Provided
All technical climbing kit is included (harness, helmet, and rock shoes), but you’re welcome to use your own if you prefer.
Course Schedule
We meet at 9:00 am at the Stanage Edge car park in the heart of the Peak District for a short briefing before heading straight to the crag. Expect a full day of adventure, challenge, and skill-building. We may explore crags further afield to make the most of the conditions — if you don’t have your own transport, let us know and we’ll help arrange a lift.
We wrap up around 4:30 pm with tired muscles, big smiles, and plenty of stories to share.
